“Results May Vary” is a blog by Cale Herreman, a writer and at-home father to children aged 1 and 4.  Also, he can make anything out of bristle blocks.

Slept on the couch again last night.  No, my wife did not kick me out, I just sort of fell asleep there, in a soreness-inducing sitting position.  I thought I was just resting for a moment, but the moment dissolved into an hour and more.  Woke up drowsy and sore, wanting to creep into the bedroom for a bit more shuteye.

The thing is, this happens a lot.  I stay up late working on important tasks, like cleaning dishes, chopping vegetables, surfing the internet and listening to music.  I like having some time when no one is screaming at me or making a mess.  Also, sleep is boring, who needs it?

If it was just a choice between doing chores and being well-rested, I’d choose sleep.  I really prefer that the laundry be folded and put away, but I’m not going to drain my last ounce of strength for it.  What I stay up for, really, is to have some time to hear myself think.  To not be interrupted.  And I know that, come morning, coffee will be there to rescue me.
